Repatriation is also the return of memory. Objects, archives, images, and stories removed from Afrikan control continue to shape what the world is allowed to know about us. That is why the opening tribute at the Abibitumi Abibifahodie Film Festival 2026 matters.
The October 16–18 hybrid festival at Ozone Cinema in Accra will honour Nii Kwate Owoo with its Legacy Award and screen You Hide Me. The film turns the question of hidden Afrikan heritage into a public demand for accountability and recovery.
For repatriates, the screening is an invitation to think beyond relocation. What knowledge, cultural property, and storytelling power must also return? What institutions can we build so that recovery is sustained rather than symbolic?
